Stop All Trade with Israel: UN Expert

Stop All Trade with Israel

GENEVA, July 3 , a recent United Nations report has made serious allegations that multinational corporations are helping Israel commit human rights violations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank by providing surveillance, weapons and construction equipment.

The report was presented by Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian Territories. In her presentation to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, she bluntly described Israel’s economic system as an “economy of genocide.” Albanese said in stark terms that

‘ইসরায়েল আধুনিক সময়ের অন্যতম নিষ্ঠুর গণহত্যা চালাচ্ছে।’
Translation: “Israel is carrying out one of the most brutal genocides of modern times.”

The Report Titled
“From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide”

The report shows how world-renowned corporate institutions are fueling Israel’s occupation, colonization, and military activities with technical and economic support.

Companies under Investigation

Technology and surveillance:

  • Alphabet (Google’s parent company)
  • IBM
  • Microsoft
  • Amazon

The tech companies are accused of supplying Israel with sophisticated surveillance and targeting technology, which is being used to plan attacks on Gaza and monitor civilians.

Military Equipment and Weapons

Lockheed Martin – This US-based arms manufacturer is supplying Israel with advanced weapons and missile technology, which has been used to carry out massive destruction in populated areas of Gaza.

Construction and post-demolition leveling

  • Caterpillar
  • Hyundai
  • Volvo

These companies supply bulldozers and construction equipment, which are being used to demolish Palestinian homes and level damaged areas in Gaza.

Financial Institutions

  • BNP Paribas
  • Barclays Bank

The report notes that these two financial institutions have played a role in financing Israeli government bonds, which are used to cover a large part of Israel’s military spending.

UN Call

Special Rapporteur Albanese called on the international community to hold accountable companies doing business with Israel. He said,

“আন্তর্জাতিক আইন লঙ্ঘনে যেসব বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠান জড়িত, তাদের বিরুদ্ধে আইনি ব্যবস্থা নিতে হবে।”
Translation: “Legal action must be taken against private organizations involved in violating international law.”
