Students Announce New Name at Late Night Gathering
Students of the University of Dhaka have announced a new name for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall. The hall has been renamed “Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall.”
The announcement was made on Thursday night (18 December). At around 2:30 am, student leaders hung a banner reading “Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall” at the main gate of the hall.
Mass Signature Campaign Shows Student Support
Ahmed Al Sabah, the General Secretary of the Hall Union, said that students participated in a mass signature campaign. According to him, the majority of students supported the demand to change the hall’s name.
He also mentioned that students had earlier submitted memorandums to the Vice-Chancellor on two occasions. However, the decision was not implemented at that time.

Demand to Include Issue in Syndicate Meeting
Ahmed Al Sabah further said that students will now place their demand before the university administration. They want the issue to be included in the agenda of the next syndicate meeting so that the hall can officially be renamed after Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.
What Happens Next
Students are now waiting for an official decision from the university authorities. They hope the syndicate will approve the proposal and formally change the hall’s name to honour Shaheed Osman Hadi.
