Students Using AI to Cheat in Exams, Says National University VC

Students Using AI

National University Vice-Chancellor (VC) A S M Amanullah has expressed serious concerns over students using Artificial Intelligence (AI) during exams. During a recent visit to a Dhaka college, he found students openly using AI in the exam hall while the principal was sitting and having tea. He also criticized the outdated exam system, lack of practical education, and weak connection between academia and industry.

VC Shocked by AI Use in Exam Halls

National University Vice-Chancellor A S M Amanullah revealed a troubling incident during a recent college inspection in Dhaka. He said:

Translation: Recently, while visiting a college in Dhaka, I saw students sitting in the exam hall using AI to take their exams, while the principal was sitting and drinking tea.

The VC expressed frustration over the lack of monitoring in exams and the irresponsibility of those in charge.

Weak Connection Between Education and Industry

Speaking at a discussion event titled “365 Days of the Interim Government” organized by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) in Dhaka’s Gulshan, the VC highlighted a major gap between education and industry:

Translation: In the examination system and curriculum of the National University, the connection between education and industry is almost zero.

He said despite this, big companies still hire National University graduates because they are easy to manipulate, less ambitious, and can be used for a long time.

Faults in the Examination System

The VC criticized the outdated and flawed exam system, pointing out that teachers from unrelated departments often input marks:

Translation: Here, a physics teacher inputs marks for a philosophy course.

He also mentioned that in many colleges, even without laboratories, students get full marks in subjects like chemistry, physics, and biology.

Lack of Responsibility Among Teachers

Highlighting a lack of accountability, the VC gave a strong example:

Translation: Recently, in a Dhaka college, I saw students using AI on their phones during an exam, and the principal was silently sitting and drinking tea.

He said finding truly responsible teachers is becoming rare, and many work in groups without proper oversight.
