Suba walks away holding a young boy’s hand, police are still searching

An 11-year-old girl, Arabi Islam Suba, went missing while crossing the road in the Mohammadpur area of the capital. She had come to Dhaka from Barishal two months ago for her mother’s lung cancer treatment.  According to the police, CCTV footage shows Suba walking away holding the hand of a young man (aged 20+). The police are trying to rescue the girl using information technology based on the mobile number linked to the man.

Reports indicate that on Sunday, February 2, around 6 PM, Suba left home with her younger cousin. She went missing while crossing the road. Suba is a sixth-grade student at a school in Barishal. CCTV footage from the area shows that Suba was last seen in front of Tokyo Square in Mohammadpur. Apart from her cousin, another person was with her, and she was seen walking with him. On Tuesday, February 4, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Adabor Police Station, SM Zakaria, stated that all possible efforts are being made to find the girl. He confirmed that Suba was seen walking away holding the hand of a young man over 20 years old.

Quoting Suba’s family, the OC mentioned that she had a relationship with the young man, which led her to leave. The girl’s family provided the young man’s mobile number, and police are trying to trace her using that information. When asked about his missing daughter, Suba’s father, Imran Rajib, said that she was a sixth-grade student at a school in Barishal. He had been staying at his sister’s (Suba’s aunt’s) house in Dhaka for the past two months due to his wife’s cancer treatment. He explained that on Sunday evening, Suba went outside with her cousin. While crossing the road, the cousin walked ahead, and when he turned back, Suba was no longer there. A general diary (GD) was filed at Adabor Police Station, and the police have assured the family that they are actively working on the case.
