Investigators discovered that Subrata used a high-tech satellite phone sent by RAW. The phone was delivered through Molla Masud, his close associate. While being secretly detained in a so-called “mirror house” (আয়নাঘর) in Bangladesh, Subrata received training to hit distant targets.

RAW, Indian Army, and Criminal Networks

Sources said Subrata and Molla Masud were interrogated several times over two days. Initially silent, Subrata later confessed about his missions in Nepal and Dubai on behalf of RAW. However, he avoided questions about killings in Bangladesh. Under heavy questioning, he revealed more shocking details about his past.

Subrata’s Escape to India and Secret Stay in Jessore

Rented House, Family Life, and Extortion

In 2001, after the government released a list of 23 top criminals, Subrata and Molla Masud fled to India. Subrata later returned secretly through the Benapole border to Jessore, where he rented a house with the help of a local named Laltu. His second wife Beauty and their three children lived there. Subrata would collect extortion money from Jessore and go back to Kolkata.

Help from Tanvirul Islam Joy and RAW Connection

Indian Police and Intelligence Support

After Subrata was arrested by Kolkata police, another top criminal Tanvirul Islam Joy arranged his release using his connections. Joy had close links with Indian officials due to his time studying in Darjeeling. After the release, they were called by then Kolkata Police Commissioner SK Chakraborty.

From that point, Subrata, Molla Masud, and another associate Madhu Babu started working with RAW and Indian military intelligence. They received commando training in northern and central India.

Failed Arrest Attempts by Indian CID

Subrata Fled to Singapore and China

In 2007, during the caretaker government’s request, Indian CID tried to arrest Subrata, but failed. He created a fake Indian passport under the name Ali Mohammad, went to Singapore, and later settled in China under RAW’s supervision.

Move to Dubai and Links with Indian Mafia

Attempt to Enter Dawood Ibrahim’s Network

As RAW had limited reach in China, Subrata was moved to Dubai, where he lived in a luxury villa. Molla Masud also joined him. RAW advised them to befriend Tiger Memon, a wanted Indian criminal, to enter Dawood Ibrahim’s mafia network. This mission failed.

Later, Subrata entered Nepal and re-entered India. Eventually, he was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from his house in Ballygunge, Kolkata.

Secret Hand-Over to RAB and New Missions

Promise of Canadian Citizenship

In February 2023, Subrata was secretly handed over to RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) at the Jaintapur border near Sylhet. At the RAB HQ, he met the then Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and police officer Monirul Islam. He was offered Canadian citizenship for him and his family if he successfully completed a new mission.

Subrata received special training inside RAB HQ to attack targets from a distance. He learned how to use sniper rifles, calculate wind speed, humidity, and distance for perfect shots.

UK-Based Political Leader Named as New Target

Diplomatic Support Promised

In December 2023, Subrata met with the home minister, Monirul Islam, and a RAW officer. They told him that the new target was a top political leader living in the UK. He was promised a Pakistani passport, help through diplomatic channels, and later a Canadian passport under the name Ali Mohammad if the mission succeeded.

They also advised Subrata to dress like a Pakistani to avoid suspicion. He was told that the highest level of the (then) government had approved the plan.

Mission Failed After Hasina Government Fell

Returned to RAW and Back in Action

On August 5, 2024, when the Hasina government fell due to a mass uprising, Subrata Bain was released. After that, he came back into the open and reconnected with RAW.

RAW sent Molla Masud to Bangladesh with a satellite phone to assist him again. Their communication with fugitive top Awami League leaders was re-established through another criminal, Leather Liton, who was hiding in Nepal.
