Speech at Discussion Meeting in Pabna
BNP Executive Committee member and former MP for Pabna-2, AKM Selim Reza Habib, praised the leadership of Tarique Rahman in bringing down what he called a fascist regime.
Speaking on Wednesday afternoon (September 3) at a discussion meeting organized by Bera Upazila BNP in Ruppur’s Badharhat Mor, Habib said Tarique Rahman strongly supported the students’ moral movement and ensured that the movement was not diverted. The meeting was held to mark the 47th founding anniversary of BNP.
Tarique Rahman’s Leadership Praised
Habib highlighted that Tarique played a decisive role in guiding the protest movement until it reached its final stage.
He said:
“ফ্যাসিস্ট পতনে তারেক রহমানকে সব দল মাস্টারমাইন্ড স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছে।”
Translation: All parties have recognized Tarique Rahman as the mastermind behind the fall of the fascists.
Habib added that Tarique’s leadership was from behind the scenes, making sure that no one could misuse or divert the student-led movement.

Struggle Against Fascism
Habib shared his own experiences, saying he had faced attacks and cases but never abandoned the streets.
He stated:
“হামলা-মামলা হয়েছে, কখনও রাজপথ থেকে পালিয়ে যাইনি। জীবনের ঝুঁকি নিয়ে ফ্যাসিষ্টদের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করেছি। ঝোপঝাড়ে রাত কাটিয়েছি তবুও কারও সঙ্গে আপস করিনি।”
Translation: There were attacks and cases, but I never left the streets. I fought against fascists at the risk of my life. I even spent nights in the bushes, but I never compromised with anyone.
He accused both Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina of imposing fascism:
“শেখ মুজিব এক দফা ফ্যাসিবাদ কায়েম করেছিল। এরচেয়েও বড় ফ্যাসিবাদ কায়েম করেছিল তার মেয়ে শেখ হাসিনা। কারও কথা বলার অধিকার ছিল না। তারেক রহমান সব দলকে এক ছাতার নিচে নিয়ে এসেছিলেন।”
Translation: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established one kind of fascism. His daughter Sheikh Hasina established an even greater fascism where no one had the right to speak. Tarique Rahman united all parties under one umbrella.
Warning of Election Conspiracies
Turning to the upcoming election, Habib alleged that conspiracies are being planned once again.
He said:
“নতুন করে নির্বাচন নিয়ে ষড়যন্ত্র হচ্ছে। আপনারা নির্বাচনের জন্য প্রস্তুত হোন। আপনারাই আমাদের শক্তি। সকল ষড়যন্ত্র মোকাবিলা করে আগামী নির্বাচন আমরা আদায় করব। আগামী দিনে সুষ্ঠু ভোটের পরিবেশ ফিরিয়ে দিতে সবাইকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকতে হবে।”
Translation: New conspiracies are being made about the election. Be prepared for the polls. You are our strength. We will overcome all conspiracies and ensure the next election. To restore a fair voting environment, everyone must remain united.
He also stressed that political competition is necessary for strengthening democracy:
“রাজনৈতিক প্রতিযোগিতা থাকবে। প্রতিযোগিতা না থাকলে দল শক্তিশালী হয় না।”
Translation: There will be political competition. Without competition, a party cannot become strong.
Who Presided Over the Meeting
The discussion meeting was presided over by Shamsur Rahman Samej, former vice-president of Bera Upazila BNP. It was conducted by Mehedi Hasan Manna, former member secretary of Bera Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal.
