Awami League Under Criticism
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has strongly criticized the Awami League, claiming that its history is tied only to the destruction of democracy and the spirit of the Liberation War. Speaking at a program in Dhaka on Sunday (September 7), he highlighted what he described as the ruling party’s contradictions.
“আজকে দেখা গেল, এক জায়গায় বলছে জয়, দৌড়াতে দৌড়াতে দেড়মাইল দূরে গিয়ে বলছে বাংলা…”
Translation: “Today we saw, in one place they are saying ‘Joy,’ and after running just a mile and a half, they are saying ‘Bangla’…”
According to Salahuddin, this reflects the current state of the Awami League, and he believes that future political leadership will ensure they cannot stand firmly anymore.

Elections for Stability
Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that the upcoming election would bring stability to the country. He said a parliamentary government must be established through elections to fulfil the people’s expectations.
Warning Against Attempts to Disrupt Elections
The BNP leader alleged that some groups are trying to block or sabotage the election process. He suggested that the next national polls may take place before February 2026, possibly even before the start of Ramadan.
“২০২৬-এর ফেব্রুয়ারিতে রমজানের একসপ্তাহে আগে অথবা তারও আগে নির্বাচন হতে পারে।
Translation: “The election could be held in February 2026, a week before Ramadan, or even earlier.”
He warned those spreading confusion or trying to create obstacles that the country is already in an election mood and the atmosphere is set for voting.
Tarique Rahman’s Return Seen as a Turning Point
Salahuddin expressed confidence that BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s return will mark a historic and unforgettable day. He said that Tarique’s arrival in Bangladesh will complete half of BNP’s election campaign.
“শিগগিরই তারেক রহমান দেশে ফিরবেন, সেদিন নির্বাচনের সবকিছু প্রতিষ্ঠা হবে… তবে বিএনপির নির্বাচনের কাজ অর্ধেক শেষ হয়ে যাবে।”
Translation: “Tarique Rahman will return to the country soon. On that day, everything about the election will be established… At that point, half of BNP’s election work will already be done.”
He explained that election campaigns are the core part of elections, and Tarique’s presence will energize BNP supporters across the country.
Call for National Consensus
The BNP leader also spoke about the importance of consensus in politics. He said the National Consensus Commission must discuss key issues with political parties before making decisions.
Otherwise, he warned, ignoring this process could create obstacles in the upcoming elections. Salahuddin added that every political party should reflect the consensus points in their manifestos, as agreed in the July declaration.
