Mahreen Chowdhury, 42, is the coordinator of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara. Every day, she helps students cross the school gate safely. But on Monday (21 July), that usual routine turned into a horrifying tragedy.
Plane Crashes into School
On that day, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into one of the buildings of the school. Instantly, a massive fire broke out. Mahreen was caught in the fire near the gate—her body burned severely.

Despite Being Burned, She Tried to Save Children
Even though her body was badly burned, Mahreen still tried to save the students from the flames. According to her husband, she held on to her responsibilities till the end.
Fighting for Life in ICU
Mahreen is now in the ICU of the burn unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors said about 80% of her body has suffered burns. Her condition is extremely critical, and she has been placed on life support.
Heartbreaking Words to Her Husband
Before being put on life support, Mahreen managed to speak to her husband, Monsur Helal. She told him that she was leaving the school with the children when the plane crashed right in front of the gate. Despite being burned herself, she did her best to protect the children.
“From head to toe, her body is burned,” said Monsur. “I think she is 100% burned.”
Everyone Praying for Mahreen
Mahreen’s family, colleagues, and students are all deeply worried. Her husband is standing outside the ICU, hoping for a miracle. Everyone is requesting prayers for her survival.
