The Government is Working to Keep Prices Under Control: Steps to Protect Consumers

Over the last quarter, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has taken significant action to address market irregularities, fining 6,573 businesses a combined total of BDT 3.94 crore. These measures are part of a government initiative aimed at stabilizing prices and protecting consumers from unethical practices. To strengthen these efforts, a district-level special taskforce has been deployed to monitor market activities and ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains.

The government has also introduced several strategic measures to curb price hikes and support consumers. These include reducing import duties on essential goods to lower costs and expanding the reach of subsidized products through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Together, these actions reflect a coordinated approach to tackling market volatility and ensuring affordability for the general public.
