BNP Chairperson’s adviser and senior lawyer Fazlur Rahman has expressed deep concern for his life. He said that during Sheikh Hasina’s rule, he thought he might be jailed for life without bail, but now he fears that his opponents want to kill him. Rahman shared these thoughts in a recent television talk show, explaining how threats against him have increased.

Reflection on October 28, 2023 Rally
Rahman recalled the day of the BNP rally on October 28, 2023, when thousands of BNP leaders and activists faced police action. He explained that many were arrested, some had to flee, and countless activists risked their lives while being accused in cases.
He said:
Translation: “On October 28, 2023, when BNP’s gathering of one million people was broken up in just ten minutes, many were jailed, some fled, and hundreds of thousands became accused at the risk of their lives. During that time, I, Fazlur Rahman, spoke against Hasina every single day.”
Fear for His Family
Fazlur Rahman described how he prepared his family mentally for the risks he faced in politics.
He told his wife and children:
Translation: “I told my wife that she would become a widow, and I told my children that they would become orphans. But I will not run away from home.”
At that time, he believed that even though Sheikh Hasina’s government might jail him, they would not go so far as to kill a senior lawyer like him.
Growing Threats and Calls for Violence
Rahman said the situation is now much more dangerous. He feels that threats are coming not just from political rivals, but also from different groups and individuals.
He explained:
Translation: “Now, at every moment, I feel threats from the government’s side, from student groups, from Jamaat-Shibir, and even from a YouTuber in France. Sitting beside him, someone said that killing Fazlur Rahman has now become a religious duty. Others are saying that mob justice will be carried out on me, and mob justice means my death.”
Final Reflection
The senior politician concluded by comparing the past with the present.
Translation: “During Sheikh Hasina’s rule, I did not think they would kill me. I thought they would put me in jail and never grant bail. But now, they want to kill me.”
