“This Protest Is Actually the People’s Movement”: Masud Kamal

Masud Kamal

Senior journalist and political analyst Masud Kamal said that the recent protest movement is not owned by any specific group, but by the people of Bangladesh. In a new video on his YouTube channel, he strongly criticized those trying to take credit for the movement, reminding them that the public, not any single group, carried it forward. He also raised concerns about the current government’s inefficiency and conflicts within allied groups.

“This Protest Is Actually the People’s Movement”

Masud Kamal stated that the protest currently going on in the country is not owned by any organization or political group, but by the people themselves.

“This protest is actually the people’s movement.”

He criticized those who are trying to claim credit for it.

“Why are you trying to take credit? Was this movement even yours?”

According to him, some groups only participated in the quota reform protests, and once the government accepted their demands, they withdrew.

“Your movement was only about quota reform… you withdrew after the government accepted your demands.”

Criticism of the Current Government

Masud Kamal also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the newly formed citizen-led government under Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

“The government formed under Dr. Yunus with citizens’ support has failed to deliver anything good.”

He mentioned that the government has not even managed to announce an election date, wasting time in the name of reforms.

“They can’t even announce a peaceful election date. They are wasting time unnecessarily in the name of reform.”

Internal Conflicts Among Political Allies

Masud also talked about increasing tensions among allied political groups.

“NCP is creating conflict with BNP… why are they fighting with everyone?”

He questioned whether these groups are even large enough to afford conflicts with other major parties like BNP or Jamaat.

“They Signed a Statement, Then Withdrew – But the Public Protest Continued”

Masud reminded everyone of a previous incident when six coordinators were picked up by law enforcement, and then a joint statement was signed.

“When six coordinators were picked up by DB’s Harun, they signed a joint statement and withdrew from the movement.”

But he pointed out that the movement still continued afterward—not by them, but by the general public.

“The public carried on the movement without these six. They just joined it later.”

“You Weren’t Leaders Then, and You’re Not Now”

In a sharp criticism, Masud Kamal clarified that those trying to take credit were never in control of the nationwide movement.

“You weren’t the leaders then, and you’re not the leaders now. Keep that in mind.”

He concluded by saying:

“Just claiming something doesn’t make you the rightful owner.”
