Strict Three-Tier Security Announced

Dhaka University authorities have decided to implement strict three-level security measures during the upcoming DUCSU and Hall Union elections. The announcement was made through a press release after a meeting with candidates on Tuesday, August 26, at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building.

The press release stated:

“On the election day, three levels of security will be ensured at eight polling centres.”

Roles of BNCC, Police, and Army

  • First Tier: BNCC members and the Proctorial Team will maintain order inside the university.

  • Second Tier: Police forces will be deployed for wider security coverage.

  • Third Tier: Army personnel will be stationed at seven entry points of the university as a “striking force.”

The press release further mentioned:

“If needed, army members will enter the campus and will surround the polling centres until the results are officially announced.”

Meeting with Candidates

The views exchange meeting was attended by contesting candidates of DUCSU and Hall Union positions. The session was chaired by Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin.

Other officials present included:

  • Professor Golam Rabbani (Returning Officer, DUCSU Election)

  • Professor Kazi Maruful Islam

  • Professor Nasrin Sultana

  • Professor Shahidul Islam

  • Professor S. M. Shamim Reza

  • Professor Tariq Monzur

  • Associate Professor Sharmin Kabir

  • Returning Officers of residential halls

During the meeting, the election officials urged the candidates to follow the code of conduct. They also gave necessary instructions to maintain a fair and peaceful environment.

Role of Police and DMP

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed their cooperation, saying they would perform duties as directed by the Returning Officers. The statement also said that patrol teams and related branches are already active.

Residential Hall Security

To prevent outside interference, no outsiders will be allowed to stay in residential halls from seven days before the election.

The press release emphasized:

“Especially in the female halls, there will be absolutely no chance for outsiders to stay.”

Campus Restrictions During Election

  • On September 8 (a day before the election) and September 9 (the election day), the Dhaka University metro station will remain closed.

  • On election day, the entire campus will be sealed.

  • Only valid students, accredited journalists, and authorized officials related to the election will be allowed to enter.

Transportation for Voters

For students who live outside the campus, additional bus trips will be arranged on different routes to ensure their participation in voting. Police will provide full assistance to make sure movement remains smooth.
