On Thursday, December 19, 2024, three individuals attempted a robbery at the Rupali Bank’s Jinjira branch in South Keraniganj, Dhaka. The group comprised Nirab (22), Arafat (16), and Sifat (16). They surrendered to law enforcement around 5:30 PM.
During a briefing at Keraniganj Model Police Station that evening, Dhaka District Police Superintendent (SP) Ahmed Muyid provided details about the incident. He mentioned that the perpetrators claimed their motive was to obtain funds to save a terminally ill kidney patient. However, authorities are verifying the authenticity of this claim.
SP Muyid noted that the young men appeared to have been inspired by movies, treating the robbery as an adventurous endeavor. He suggested that they might not be habitual criminals but rather misguided youths seeking excitement. The police are currently investigating the provided information to ascertain the truth.
