Government to Spend Over Tk 608 Crore on LNG Import
To ensure the country’s energy security, the government of Bangladesh has approved the purchase of one cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from South Korea. The total cost of this purchase will be Tk 608 crore.
Approval Given in Government Purchase Meeting
The decision was made on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the government’s economic advisor.
LNG to Be Bought from Spot Market
According to sources from the meeting, the government approved the proposal to buy one cargo of LNG through spot market quotations under the Public Procurement Rules, 2008.
This specific cargo (29th cargo) is scheduled for delivery between 11–12 July 2025.

Supplier: POSCO International Corporation, South Korea
The LNG will be purchased from POSCO International Corporation, a company based in South Korea.
The total estimated cost of this LNG cargo is Tk 608.14 crore (608 crore 14 lakh 9 thousand 152 taka).
Permission Based on Energy Division Proposal
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division made the import proposal.
Following a study of the proposal, the committee formally approved the import.
