Train Crash in Lalmonirhat: Big Collision Disrupts Rail Network, 5 Injured

Lalmonirhat train crash

A train crash in Lalmonirhat has severed rail connectivity between Burimari and the rest of Bangladesh, causing major disruptions and passenger distress. The collision occurred around 2:00 PM on Monday (28 July) near the railway workshop close to Lalmonirhat Railway Station.

According to railway officials and local sources, the Lalmoni Express, arriving from Dhaka, had just dropped off its passengers and was heading toward the workshop for cleaning.

At the same time, Train No. 461  the Burimari Commuter  was entering the station from the opposite direction on the same track. The two trains collided head-on.

Although the Lalmoni Express was not carrying passengers at the time, the impact of the train crash was strong enough to derail two of its coaches and cause minor damage to the rail track.

At least five passengers on the Burimari Commuter were reported injured. They received primary medical treatment and are reportedly out of danger.

All Trains Suspended on Lalmonirhat-Burimari Route

Following the collision, all train operations on the Lalmonirhat–Burimari rail line have been suspended until further notice. Passengers stranded on the halted Burimari Commuter train expressed deep frustration as they faced prolonged delays without clear communication or immediate alternative transport.

Railway authorities have dispatched emergency repair and rescue teams to the site to restore the damaged section of the line and remove the derailed coaches.

Speaking from the scene, RM Benazir Ahmed, an official from Lalmonirhat Railway Security Department, confirmed:
