Two Madrasa girl students from a madrasa in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj died suddenly in the early hours of Saturday. Both became sick at night with vomiting and stomach pain. Doctors declared them dead after they were taken to the hospital. The exact cause of death is still unknown, and their bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Incident at a Female Madrasa
The tragic incident took place early Saturday (16 August) at Shefali Hafizia Mahila Madrasa, located in Dobarmore area of Radhanagar Union, Gomastapur upazila, Chapainawabganj.
The deceased were identified as:

Jamila Khatun (10), daughter of Soiyabur Rahman from Begpur area.

Tania Akter Nishi (12), daughter of Tarikul Islam from Lebudanga village.
Students Fell Sick at Night
According to madrasa teachers, police, and locals, around 11 pm on Friday night, twelve madrasa students finished their dinner and went to sleep. Around 2:30 am, Jamila and Tania suddenly fell ill. They started vomiting and complained of severe stomach pain.
They were rushed to Gomastapur Upazila Health Complex, but doctors declared both of them dead.
Teacher’s Statement
Madrasa teacher Shahida Khatun said that all students were fine after dinner, but suddenly two girls became seriously ill.
She said:
Bangla: “রাত আড়াইটার দিকে জামিলা বমি করে। সঙ্গে রক্তও বের হয়। এরপর তানিয়াও বমি করতে শুরু করে। আমরা তাদের দ্রুত হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাই। কীভাবে তাদের মৃত্যু হলো, তা আমরা বুঝতে পারছি না।”
Translation: “Around 2:30 am, Jamila vomited, and blood came out with it. Then Tania also started vomiting. We took them to the hospital quickly. We cannot understand how they died.”
She also mentioned that Tania’s hand was swollen, but there were no signs of snake bite on either of the girls.

Doctors Suspect Abnormal Death
On-duty doctor Abdul Alim from Gomastapur Health Complex confirmed the deaths.
He said:
Bangla: “জামিলা খাতুন হাসপাতালে পৌঁছানোর আগেই মারা যায়। আর তানিয়া আক্তার নিশি হাসপাতালে আসার পর মারা যায়। অস্বাভাবিক মৃত্যু বলেই মনে হচ্ছে। তাদের শরীরে সাপে কামড়ানোর কোনো লক্ষণ পাওয়া যায়নি।”
Translation: “Jamila Khatun died before reaching the hospital. Tania Akter Nishi died after arrival. This seems like an unnatural death. We did not find any signs of snake bite on their bodies.”
Police Action
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gomastapur Police Station, Wadud Alam, confirmed that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to Chapainawabganj District Hospital (250-bed).
He said the cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report.
