UK Replaces Visa Stickers with E-Visa for International Students

E-Visa

Starting July 15, 2025, international students from Bangladesh and other countries applying for UK student visas may not receive a physical visa sticker (also called a vignette) in their passport. Instead, the UK is switching to a fully digital system using e-visas. However, some applicants like dependants or those applying for other types of visas may still receive visa stickers.

UK Moves to E-Visa for Immigration

The United Kingdom is moving away from physical visa stickers and documents. From July 15, 2025, Bangladeshi students who apply for a UK student visa will most likely not get any vignette (the visa sticker) in their passport.

This is part of the UK government’s plan to shift toward fully digital immigration documents.

What is Replacing the Visa Sticker?

Instead of using:

  • Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs),

  • Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs),

  • Wet ink passport stamps, or

  • Visa stickers (vignettes),

the UK government will now issue e-visas, which are completely digital.

Who Will Still Get a Sticker?

If you apply as:

  • A student dependant, or

  • A main applicant for visa categories other than sponsored study or work,

you may still get a physical visa sticker in your passport.

“ই-ভিসা চালু হলে পাসপোর্টে আর স্টিকার লাগবে না। এটি পুরোপুরি ডিজিটাল হবে এবং ভিসাধারীদের জন্য আরও সহজ হবে।”

“Once e-visas are introduced, no more stickers will be needed on the passport. It will be fully digital and easier for visa holders.”

Why the Change?

The UK says e-visas are:

  • Faster to issue

  • Easier to manage

  • More secure than physical stickers

Applicants will likely access their visa through an online portal or digital platform.
