A tragic crash at the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway toll plaza yesterday claimed six lives, with Rab confirming that the bus driver involved, Nuruddin, did not have a valid license. The driver admitted that the bus, put into service after repairs, had brake issues.
Rab-10 media officer Taposh Karmakar stated that the bus had been idle for a long time and was repaired before being used. Nuruddin informed the bus owner about the faulty brakes but was told to drive slowly. During the crash, the brakes failed despite multiple attempts to stop the vehicle.
The accident occurred around 11:15 am in South Keraniganj, where the bus hit a private car, a motorcycle, and a microbus. The victims included members of two families.
The driver, arrested in Narayanganj last night, confessed to occasional drug use but claimed he was not under the influence during the incident. He will be handed over to Highway Police after legal procedures.
The bus was seized after the crash, but the staff fled the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
