National Citizens Party (NCP) South Region’s Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah has said that his election campaign does not require traditional workers, agents, or financial expenses because “every voter is my worker and my agent.”
On Thursday (4 December) night, he made these remarks at a roadside public meeting held at the Bagur Government Primary School field in the Barkamata Union of Debidwar Upazila.
People are spending their own money to bring change
Addressing the gathering, Hasnat said:
নির্বাচনে আমার কোনো কর্মী বা এজেন্ট লাগবে না, কোনো টাকা পয়সাও খরচ হবে না। কারণ প্রত্যেকটা ভোটারই আমার কর্মী, এজেন্টে, যারা নিজের অর্থ দিয়ে নির্বাচন করবে। আগে ভোট চাইতে গেলে ভোটারদের টাকা দিতে হতো, চা খাওয়াইতে হতো আর এখন আমি ভোট চাইতে গেলে মায়েরা আমাকে খাবার দেয়, পকেটে টাকা গুঁজে দেয় এইটাই আমার জন্য সবচেয়ে বড় পাওয়া।
Translation: “I don’t need any agents or party workers the people themselves will spend from their own pockets for this election. In the past, when we visited voters, we had to pay for tea, even give money to some. But today, when I go to the people, the mothers feed me with their own hands and tuck money into my pocket. This is the biggest blessing for me.”
He further mentioned that some leaders mockingly claim he will not even get five hundred votes.
“Even if I get only 10 votes, I will not leave Debidwar”
Whether he wins or loses, his promise to remain with the people of Debidwar underscores a message of loyalty and grassroots commitment. He further mentioned that some leaders mockingly claim he will not even get five hundred votes. Hasnat Abdullah said:
আমি যদি ১০টা ভোটও পাই তাহলে নির্বাচনের পর তাদের নিয়ে আমি কাজ করব। তবুও এ দেবিদ্বার ছেড়ে যাবো না। আমার নির্বাচন তারাই করবে, যারা রাস্তায় আলো জ্বালায় কিন্তু নিজের ঘরের কুপিতে তেল থাকে না। যারা মানুষের ভাত জোগায়, কিন্তু নিজের হাড়িতে ভাত বা রান্নার চাল থাকে না। আমার নির্বাচন চা ওয়ালারা, রিকশাওয়ালারা ও রাজমিস্ত্রিরা করবে। জয় পরাজয় যাই হোক, দেবিদ্বারের মানুষের সঙ্গে থাকব।
Translate: “If I get only ten votes, even then I will continue working with the people after the election. Victory or defeat doesn’t matter. I will not leave Debidwar. The people who light the roads while their own lamps remain empty, who cook for others but sometimes cannot fill their own pots at home—they are the ones who will carry out my election.”

He described his campaign as a movement led by tea sellers, rickshaw pullers, construction workers, and the struggling working class. In a political landscape often dominated by money and muscle, his campaign stands out as a reminder that the true power of politics lies not in agents or expensive campaigns, but in the hearts of the people who still believe in change.
Allegation of intimidation and assault
He also accused political rivals of intimidation tactics. He said:
আমার সভায় এক কর্মী আসায় তার বাড়িতে গিয়ে তার মাকে মারধর করে আসছে একটি দলের লোকজন। ওই নেতাদের লজ্জা হওয়া উচিত। এই জুলুম তো হাসিনার জুলুমের সঙ্গে মিলে যাচ্ছে। জ্ঞানী লোক ইতিহাস থেকে শিক্ষা নেয়। আপনাদের রাজনৈতিক কি পরিমাণ দেউলিয়া হলে আমাদের মত নয় মাসের রাজনৈতিক দলে কেউ যদি আসে আপনারা বাড়িতে গিয়ে হুমকি দিয়ে আসেন। এ থেকে তো বড় দেউলিয়া আর কিছুই হতে পারে না।
Translation: “One of my supporters attended my meeting. Later, some people from another party went to his house and beat his mother. They should be ashamed. This behavior is no different from the oppression we saw under Hasina’s regime. What level of political bankruptcy have they reached that they threaten us—leaders of a nine-month-old party?”
Earlier in the day, Hasnat Abdullah conducted door-to-door campaigning in different villages, bazaars, and neighborhoods of Barkamata and Mohanpur unions, speaking directly with local residents.
NCP Debidwar Upazila’s Acting Chief Coordinator Md Jahangir Alam Sarkar, Joint Coordinators Saiful Islam Shamim, Shamim Kawsar, and other local leaders were present.
