A local businessman has been allegedly beaten up in the Uttar Bazar area of Feni’s Parshuram upazila over demands for money. The victim, businessman Sumon Hossain, alleged that a former leader of the Jubo Dal, who was recently expelled from the party, and his associates were involved in the attack. The incident took place on Saturday, July 12 afternoon at the victim’s own business establishment.
A 5-minute, 40-second video has already gone viral on social media. It shows Jubodal leader Md. Sayem and his nephew Faisal, along with a group of others, trying to drag businessman Sumon out of the shop. At one point, his clothes were torn and he was physically assaulted as a result of the pulling.
Suman, a victim businessman from Parashuram Uttar Bazar said,
বকেয়া টাকা চাওয়াতে দক্ষিণ কোলাপাড়া ৫ নম্বর ওয়ার্ড যুবদলের সভাপতি মো. সায়েম ও তার ভাতিজা ফয়সালসহ কয়েকজন আমাকে মারধর করেন। রাতেই সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে মারধরের একটি ভিডিও ছড়িয়ে পড়লে বিষয়টি জানাজানি হয়। বর্তমানে আমি পরশুরাম উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে চিকিৎসাধীন। পরিবারের সঙ্গে কথা বলে মামলার বিষয়ে সিদ্ধান্ত নেবেন।
Translation: South Kolapara Ward 5 Jubo Dal President Md. Sayem and his nephew Faisal and some others beat me up for demanding outstanding money. The matter came to light when a video of the beating went viral on social media that night. I am currently undergoing treatment at Parashuram Upazila Health Complex. A decision will be taken regarding the case after talking to the family.

Meanwhile, a press release said that accused Md. Sayem was dismissed from the Jubo Dal on June 25. The press release signed by Parashuram Municipality Jubo Dal convener Mustafa Khokon, senior joint convener Misfaqus Chamad Roni and joint convener Nurul Absar Chowdhury Kamal stated,
দলীয় শৃঙ্খলা পরিপন্থি কর্মকাণ্ডে জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগ প্রমাণিত হওয়ায় ফেনী জেলা যুবদলের নির্দেশক্রমে পরশুরাম পৌর যুবদলের ৫ নং ওয়ার্ডের আহ্বায়ক মো. সায়েমকে দলীয় পদ থেকে অব্যাহতি দেওয়া হলো।
Translation: As the allegations of involvement in activities against party discipline were proven, on the instructions of Feni District Jubo Dal, the convener of Ward No. 5 of the Parashuram Municipality Jubo Dal, Md. Sayem, was relieved of his party post.
After this incident, Md. Sayem’s mobile number was tried to be contacted several times to get a statement about the incident, but his mobile phone was found to be switched off.
Mostafa Khokon, convener of the Parashuram Municipal Youth Party, said,
দলীয় শৃঙ্খলা পরিপন্থী কর্মকাণ্ডে জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগ সায়েমকে ২৫ জুন অর্থাৎ ১৭ দিন আগে দল থেকে অব্যাহতি দেওয়া হয়েছে।
Translation: Sayem was dismissed from the party on June 25, 17 days ago, for allegedly engaging in activities that violated party discipline.
