Nahid Islam, the leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), stated, “Those who removed Sheikh Hasina from power do not fear extortionists and thugs.”

Nahid Islam stated, “A certain group thought they could buy the power of the mass uprising with the lure of power-sharing. But no political party has the means to buy the force of a revolution. We made it clear that we opened the door for dialogue back on August 5.”

He made remark on Saturday (July 12) during a political march that began at Shantimor in Satkhira and culminated in a mass rally at Shaheed Asif Square in the heart of the city.

He added, “We proposed a national government on August 5, but they rejected it. Their only concern is securing a share of power. Whenever we talk about reform and justice, they oppose it because they want to preserve the old political arrangements for their own benefit.”

The NCP convener emphasized, “In post-uprising Bangladesh, old-style politics will not continue. The power of July is still active on the ground, and the people are still awake.”

He warned, “This group is now trying to preserve extortion and violence to suppress the people’s movement. But the people are no longer afraid. We have said those who managed to oust Hasina have no fear of extortionists.”

The march was joined by several other central leaders of the NCP, including South Zone Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah and North Zone Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam.

Nahid Islam’s message was clear: the NCP will no longer walk the path of compromise. They remain firm in their proposal for a national government. If other parties continue to stand against the demands of the people, “the streets will become the ultimate court of justice.”
