Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gana Adhikar Parishad, expressed concern over the recent deaths of five individuals in Gopalganj due to law enforcement gunfire. He stated that such incidents are unacceptable regardless of political identity.
“শান্তিতে নোবেল বিজয়ী সরকারপ্রধান দায়িত্বে থাকা অবস্থায় গোপালগঞ্জের এই যে পাঁচজন মারা গিয়েছে, হোক সে ছাত্রলীগ, আওয়ামী লীগ— কিন্তু এ রকম আইন-শৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর গুলিতে মৃত্যু আমরা কামনা করি না।”

Remarks on Dr. Yunus and Political Image
Nur commented on the government’s attitude toward Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He said that Dr. Yunus is a Nobel Peace Prize winner who has significantly contributed to poverty reduction through Grameen Bank, though not awarded the Nobel in Economics.
“ড. ইউনূস শান্তিতে নোবেল বিজয়ী। তিনি অর্থনীতিবিদ, কিন্তু অর্থনীতিতে নোবেল বিজয়ী না। তিনি ও তার গ্রামীণ ব্যাংক দারিদ্র্য দূরীকরণে ভূমিকা রেখেছেন, জয়েন্টলি তিনি নোবেল পেয়েছেন।”

Nur believes the ruling party may try to damage Dr. Yunus’s reputation by creating unrest and instability.
“আওয়ামী লীগ চাইবে উসকানি দিয়ে ড. ইউনূসের ইমেজ ক্ষুণ্ণ করতে, দেশের ভাবমূর্তি ক্ষুণ্ণ করতে।”
(“Awami League may try to provoke unrest to damage Dr. Yunus’s image and harm the country’s reputation.”)
Confusion Around Election Dates
Nur also spoke about the current confusion surrounding the upcoming elections. He mentioned that the Chief Adviser initially mentioned elections between December and June, but later changed it to April, and then again hinted at February after a meeting in London with BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.
“প্রধান উপদেষ্টার শুরুর দিকে যে ঘোষণাটা ছিল ডিসেম্বর থেকে জুনের মধ্যে ইলেকশন…তার পরে তিনি এপ্রিলে নির্বাচনের ডেট দিলেন…তার পরে আবার লন্ডনের বৈঠক মেষে বলেছেন ফেব্রুয়ারি।”

This shifting timeline has caused doubt and anxiety among the public.
“তার মানে এখানে ডালমে কুচ কালা হ্যায়…এ কারণে নির্বাচন নিয়ে অনেকের মধ্যে একটা উৎকণ্ঠা-উদ্বেগ তৈরি হচ্ছে।”
