A 27-year-old newlywed woman, who had recently returned from the United States, was allegedly gang-raped by a group of robbers at her in-laws’ residence in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district in the early hours of Monday.
According to police, the victim had arrived in Bangladesh two months ago to join her husband at his home in Tiakhali. Around midnight, a group of armed individuals broke into the house of Tariqul Islam Sunan, a local teacher, by forcefully dismantling the window grill. The intruders held the family members at gunpoint.
The robbers then tied up the woman’s husband and reportedly raped her in turns in front of him, as stated in the case filed with Kalapara Police Station.

In addition to the sexual assault, the assailants looted valuables from the house, including 13 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk50,000 in cash, before fleeing the scene.
Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jewel Islam confirmed that a case was filed today (15 July), and two suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident. “Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining perpetrators,” said the OC.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern over rising incidents of home invasions and sexual violence in the region. Law enforcement officials have promised a swift investigation and strict legal action against those responsible.
