Woman Murdered in Hatiya After Robbery at Home

A shocking incident took place in Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila, where a woman was murdered after a robbery at her home. The victim, Amen Begum (50), was found dead with her throat slit on Wednesday night in Shatoful village under Nijhum Dwip Union.

Who Was the Victim?

Amen Begum was the wife of Md. Emran Uddin, a dried fish (shutki) trader at Nijhum Dwip local market. The couple lived together at their house, while their sons stay in Maijdee town for their studies.

What Happened That Night?

According to Amirul Momin Babul, a local leader of the Nijhum Dwip Union Volunteer Wing, Emran returned home around evening and saw his wife praying Isha (night) prayers. After that, he went back to the market.

When he came back home at around 10:30 PM, he found the main door open, and his wife was not inside the house. However, he noticed blood stains on the floor and immediately informed Amirul.

Amirul said, “When we rushed to the house and started searching, we found Amen Begum’s body floating in a nearby pond. Her throat had been slit, and the killers had dumped the body in the water.”

Police Confirmation

Sub-Inspector Abdul Mannan, in charge of Nijhum Dwip police camp, confirmed that Amena was killed by slitting her throat and that the body was thrown into the pond. The body was recovered at around 2:15 AM at night.

What Are the Police Doing?

Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.K.M. Azmal Huda of Hatiya Police Station said that the body has been sent for autopsy to the district hospital. He added, “We are trying to find out the reason behind the murder. Further legal actions will be taken once we receive a written complaint from the family.”
