In Tongi, Gazipur, an unidentified woman went missing after falling into an open manhole. The tragic incident occurred around 9 PM on Sunday (27 July) near Dhaka Imperial Hospital in the Hossain Market area. Fire service workers have been conducting rescue operations at the scene until around 10:30 PM.
Eyewitnesses reported that heavy rain caused flooding along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway road. At that moment, the woman was walking from south to north when she accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole beside the road maintained by Gazipur City Corporation.
Locals tried to rescue her immediately but were unsuccessful. They then alerted the Tongi Fire Service, who arrived and began search efforts.

Senior officer Md. Shahin Alam of Tongi Fire Service said, “The open manhole is about 10 feet deep and filled with rainwater. Our rescue team has been searching for over an hour but has not yet found the woman.”
Iskandar Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi West Police Station, said around 10:30 PM, “We arrived at the scene after receiving the report. They are continuing their efforts to find the missing woman.”
