World’s Biggest Air Conditioner Installed in Macca to Help Pilgrims
To help people who are visiting Macca for the Hajj pilgrimage, especially because it’s very hot there, the world’s largest air conditioning system has been set up in the area around the Kaaba. This huge AC system has the power to cool an area that would usually need 155,000 tons of regular air conditioning to cool down!
Who is in Charge?
The job of installing and looking after this massive AC system belongs to a special government organization. This organization is called “The General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.” They are responsible for taking care of the Kaaba in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

How Big Is It?
This gigantic air conditioning system is actually made up of two main parts.
- The First Part: This unit is incredibly powerful and can cool an area equivalent to what 120,000 tons of regular AC could do.
- The Second Part: This smaller, but still very large, unit has a cooling capacity of 35,000 tons.
Where Will They Be Used?
These two powerful AC units will be placed in two important locations within the Kaaba courtyard:
- Shamiya Station: This is one of the stations in the courtyard.
- Ajiad Station: This is the other main station where many pilgrims gather.
Since a lot of people visit these two stations, the AC will be most helpful in these areas.
Why is This Necessary?
Saudi Arabia, where Mecca is located, has a desert climate. Right now, it’s the middle of summer there, and the temperature is going above 40 degrees Celsius (which is very hot!). In the past few days, many people have suffered from heatstroke and had to go to the hospital because of the extreme heat.
How Will It Help During Hajj?
The officials in Saudi Arabia have said that this huge air conditioning system will run all day and night during the Hajj. Its main job will be to keep the temperature inside the covered areas of the Kaaba courtyard between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius (a comfortable temperature).
More Than Just Cooling
This special AC system does more than just cool the air. It can also clean the air by removing up to 95% of germs and pollutants. This means that while pilgrims are in the Kaaba area, they won’t have to suffer from the heat, and the air will also be cleaner.

Hajj is one of the five most important duties in Islam. Every Muslim who is able to, both men and women, must perform Hajj at least once in their lifetime. Because of this, millions of Muslims from all over the world travel to Mecca every year during the Hajj season.
Hajj is Starting Soon
This year, the main events of Hajj are starting very soon, on June 4th. According to the official information from Saudi Arabia, more than 1.5 million pilgrims from different countries have already arrived in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. This new, giant air conditioning system will be a great help in making their pilgrimage more comfortable in the hot weather.
