Today, a young man named Maulana Waliullah claimed he had finished reading the Qur’an twice for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. However, his wife publicly denied the claim, calling it false. The incident, which happened at Dhanmondi-32 in Dhaka, went viral on social media after police stopped them from paying tribute.
Police Stop the Couple from Paying Tribute
On Friday afternoon (15 August), Maulana Waliullah and his family went to Dhanmondi-32 to offer prayers and commemorating the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.
However, the police did not allow them to enter the premises. Disappointed, Waliullah expressed his feelings to journalists while sitting in a rickshaw on the way back.
Waliullah’s Statement
In a viral video, Waliullah is seen speaking to the media about his deep respect for Bangabandhu.
Bangla: “বঙ্গবন্ধুর পরিবারকে নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। বঙ্গবন্ধুকে আমি অনেক ভালবাসি। আমি তার জন্য দুইবার কোরআন খতম দিয়েছি।”
English: “Bangabandhu’s family was brutally killed. I love Bangabandhu very much. I have finished reading the Qur’an twice for him.”

Wife’s Response
As Waliullah was speaking, his wife interrupted and openly disagreed with him.
Bangla: “এর (ওয়ালিউল্লাহ) মাথায় সমস্যা। সমস্যা না থাকলে এগুলো কেউ বলে? ডাহা মিথ্যা কথা, সারাবছর কোরআন খতমের কোনো খবরই নাই।”
English: “There’s something wrong with his (Waliullah’s) head. Who says such things if they’re fine? This is a complete lie; there is no news of him finishing the Qur’an any time of the year.”
She then turned to the journalists and said:
Bangla: “আপনারা কী এগুলো (মাইক্রোফোন) সরাবেন? নাকি আপনারাও এর সাথে পাগল হয়ে গেছেন?”
English: “Will you remove these (microphones)? Or have you also gone mad with him?”
Waliullah’s Disappointment with Police
Ignoring his wife’s remarks, Waliullah continued to speak about being denied entry.
Bangla: “আমি বঙ্গবন্ধুর পরিবারের জন্য দোয়া ও তার বাড়ি জেয়ারত করতে ঢুকতে চাইলে পুলিশ ঢুকতে দেয়নি। তারা বাধা দিয়েছে। আমি বঙ্গবন্ধুকে খুব ভালবাসি। খুব খারাপ লাগতেছে আমার।”
English: “When I tried to enter to pray for Bangabandhu’s family and visit his house, the police did not let me in. They stopped me. I love Bangabandhu very much. I am feeling very bad.”
