A heartbreaking and shocking incident has taken place in a village in Bera upazila of Pabna. A young man named Nazmul Hossain (22) cut off his own penis in anger over pressure from his family to get married. He is currently undergoing treatment at the 250-bed General Hospital in Pabna.
The incident took place on Wednesday, June 26, but the matter came to light on Saturday, July 5. Since the incident, there has been a lot of excitement in the area.

Nazmul Broke Down due to Family Pressure
Local residents and neighbors said,
“নাজমুল মানিকনগর গ্রামের মিন্টু মোল্লার ছেলে। তিনিপেশায় একজন এস্কেভেটর চালক। তার তিন বোনের মধ্যে বড় বোনের বিয়ে হয়েছে। তার ছোট আরও দুটি বোন অবিবাহিত রয়েছে। পরিবার থেকে প্রায়ই নাজমুলকে বিয়ের কথা বলা হলে সে রাজি হতেন না। ঘটনার দিন দুপুরে তার পরিবার থেকে বিয়ের জন্য চাপ দেয়া হলে কথা কাটাকাটি হয়। এক পর্যায়ে নাজমুল বাজার থেকে ব্লেড এনে বাথরুমে গিয়ে নিজেই নিজের পুরুষাঙ্গ কেটে ফেলেন।”
Translation: “Nazmul is the son of Mintu Mollah of Maniknagar village. He is an excavator driver by profession. Of his three sisters, the eldest is married. His two younger sisters are unmarried. When Nazmul was often asked by his family to marry, he would not agree. On the day of the incident, when his family pressured him to marry, an argument broke out. At one point, Nazmul brought a blade from the market and went to the bathroom to cut off his own penis.”
They further said,
“কিছুক্ষণ পর তার চিৎকারে সবাই তাকে উদ্ধার করে প্রথমে বেড়া উপজেলা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্স ও অবস্থার অবনতি হলে কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক উন্নত চিকিৎসার জন্য ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে প্রেরণ করেন। সেখানে অস্ত্রপচার করে নাজমুলকে পাবনা জেনারেল হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসা দেয়া হচ্ছে।”
Translation: “Everyone rescued him due to his screams and first sent him to Bera Upazila Health Complex and when his condition deteriorated, the doctor on duty sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Nazmul is being treated at Pabna General Hospital after undergoing surgery there.”
Confirming the truth of the incident, UP member No. 9 of Kaitola Union, Rafiqul Islam, said,
ঘটনার পর তাকে চিকিৎসার জন্য ঢাকায় নিয়ে গেলে পুলিশ কেস হওয়ায় হাসপাতালে তাকে তাৎক্ষনিক ভর্তি করা সম্ভব হয়নি। পরে ভর্তি করা হয়। বর্তমানে নাজমুল এখন পাবনা জেনারেল হাসপাতালে ভর্তি আছেন।
Translation: After the incident, he was taken to Dhaka for treatment, but due to a police case, he could not be admitted to the hospital immediately. He was admitted later. Nazmul is currently admitted to Pabna General Hospital
However, Nazmul’s father Mintu Molla said in this regard,
ছেলেটা মানসিক রোগী। দীর্ঘদিন ধরে তাকে চিকিৎসা করানো হচ্ছে। চিকিৎসায় সে অনেকটা সুস্থ। কিন্তু কি কারণে এমন কাজ করলো আমরা বুঝতে পারছি না।
Translation: The boy is mentally ill. He has been receiving treatment for a long time. He is recovering well with treatment. But we don’t understand why he did such a thing.
He further said,
যুবক ছেলেকে সবাই বিয়ের কথা বলবে এটাই স্বাভাবিক। ওর নানা ও দুলাভাই মাঝে মধ্যে বিয়ের কথা বলতো। তবে ঘটনার দিন আমি বাড়ি ছিলাম না।
Translation: It’s natural for everyone to talk about marriage to a young boy. His grandfather and uncle would sometimes talk about marriage. However, I wasn’t home on the day of the incident.
Dr. Zahidul Islam, resident physician at Pabna General Hospital, said,
নাজমুলের অস্ত্রপচার ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজেই সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। এখন সে আশংকামুক্ত। আমরা তাকে প্রয়োজনীয় চিকিৎসা দিয়ে পর্যবেক্ষণে রেখেছি।
Translation: Nazmul’s surgery was completed at Dhaka Medical College. He is now out of danger. We have given him the necessary treatment and kept him under observation.
