A heartbreaking murder has taken place in Charabunia village of Madarbunia Union in Sadar Upazila of Patuakhali. Two women, Mosiah Sahida Begum (50) and Kulsum Begum (75) were found murdered by slitting their throats in their homes at around 1 pm on Friday (June 13).The main accused in this brutal murder is Al Amin (27), a family member of the victims, who is the stepson of Sahida Begum and the grandson of Kulsum Begum.
How the Incident Happen?
According to local and family members, other male members of the house were busy offering Friday prayers at a nearby mosque at the time of the incident. Taking that opportunity, Al Amin first killed his stepmother Sahida Begum and then his grandmother Kulsum Begum with a sharp knife used in the kitchen.
Bahadur Alam Khan (50), a relative of the deceased said,
“নিহত সাহিদা সম্পর্কে তাঁর চাচিশাশুড়ি এবং কুলসুম বেগম দাদিশাশুড়ি। দুপুরে বাড়ির সবাই জুমার নামাজ পড়তে গেলে মানসিক ভারসাম্যহীন ছোট ছেলে আল আমিন রান্নার কাজে ব্যবহৃত ধারালো দা দিয়ে প্রথমে সৎমা এবং পরে দাদিকে গলা কেটে হত্যা করেন।”
Translation: “The deceased Shahida was her aunt-in-law and Kulsum Begum was her grandmother-in-law. When everyone in the family went to offer Friday prayers in the afternoon, the mentally unstable younger son Al Amin first slit the throat of his stepmother and then his grandmother with a sharp knife used for cooking.”
He said,
“আল আমিন মাদ্রাসা থেকে দাখিল পাস করে পটুয়াখালী সরকারি কলেজে ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন। এরপর তিন বছর আগে চট্টগ্রামের হাটহাজারী মাদ্রাসায় পড়াশোনা করতে যান। সেখান থেকে বাড়িতে ফিরে অস্বাভাবিক আচরণ শুরু করেন। পরে পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে চিকিৎসক দেখালেও সুস্থ হননি।”
Translation: “Al Amin passed the entrance exam from the Madrasa and got admitted to Patuakhali Government College. Then, three years ago, he went to study at the Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong. After returning home, he started behaving abnormally. Later, his family took him to a doctor but he did not recover.”

What police say?
After the incident, Patuakhali Sadar Police Station immediately reached the spot and recovered the bodies of the deceased. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Md. Imtiaz Ahmed said,
“দুই নারীকে হত্যার খবর পেয়ে তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে ঘটনাস্থলে যায় পুলিশ। হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটানো ব্যক্তি ওই পরিবারের সদস্য। ঘটনার পর মরদেহের সুরতহাল প্রতিবেদন শেষে উদ্ধার করে পটুয়াখালী মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে। জড়িত তরুণ এখন পলাতক। তিনি মানসিক ভারসাম্যহীন কি না, তদন্ত করে দেখা হবে।”
Translation: “Police immediately went to the scene after receiving news of the murder of two women. The person who committed the murder is a member of the family. After the incident, the body was recovered after completing the post-mortem report and sent to the Patuakhali morgue. The youth involved is now absconding. An investigation will be conducted to see if he is mentally unstable or not.”
The Autopsy (ময়নাতদন্ত) Report
The bodies of the two women have been recovered and sent to the Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after the post-mortem report. The police said that the real cause and responsibility can be confirmed only after the investigation.
