“Your Country Also Shelters a Fugitive”: Bangladeshi Journalist Replies to India

India

On October 30, during a press briefing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal commented on Dr. Zakir Naik’s planned visit to Bangladesh.
He said,

Translation: “Zakir Naik is a fugitive. He is wanted in India. Therefore, we hope that wherever he goes, the concerned country will take appropriate action against him and take our security concerns into consideration.”

Dr. Zakir Naik, wanted in India on charges of money laundering and hate speech, has been invited by Bangladesh’s interim government to visit the country from November 28 to December 20, sparking political and diplomatic debate.

Journalist Rajib Ahmed’s Sharp Response

In response to Jaiswal’s remarks, Bangladeshi journalist Rajib Ahmed wrote a critical post on social media.
He stated,

Translation: “Bangladesh also has a fugitive wanted criminal living in your country, brother. You should also take Bangladesh’s security concerns into account.”
