Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives, and Youth & Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has called for utilizing the potential of the country’s youth in this era of globalization. He emphasized that last year’s student-led July uprising was primarily driven by widespread unemployment.

Speaking as the chief guest at the national workshop titled “Youth Entrepreneurs: Investment, Policy, and Ecosystem” on Thursday (July 17) at the BIDA Multipurpose Hall in Dhaka, he said, “We are actively working on this issue. Nearly 63% of our population is under the age of 35. We must mobilize this young generation.”

The event was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to youth-centric reforms, Asif Mahmud Sajib said, “We are witnessing the rise of a generation that no longer waits for permission. They are moving forward with purpose and passion. It is our responsibility to remove the barriers in their path and build the necessary infrastructure. We must implement our promises to equip this generation with the tools they need to lead.”

He stressed that the July Revolution was not just a moment of political unrest, but a reflection of deep-rooted economic and social challenges. “If we do not address youth unemployment head-on, we risk leaving behind the very people who are meant to shape the nation’s future.”
