Arrest Over Alleged Quran Desecration
Police in Narail’s Kalia upazila have arrested a youth following allegations of desecration of the Holy Quran. The arrested individual has been identified as Hamim Molla (18).
The arrest was carried out by Naragati Police Station on Wednesday (24 December) around 11:00 am from Baradia Bazar.
Identity of the Accused
Hamim Molla is the son of Ruhul Molla and a resident of Chorkhali village under Khasial Union of Kalia upazila.

What Happened
According to police and local sources, the alleged incident took place on Tuesday afternoon (23 December) in Chorkhali village. Locals accused Hamim Molla of insulting the Holy Quran.
Several people reportedly witnessed the incident and chased him, prompting him to flee the scene.
Situation Turns Tense in the Market
On Wednesday morning, locals found Hamim again and allegedly tried to assault him. He then took shelter at shopkeeper Jia’s store in Baradia Bazar.
As the news spread, devout Muslims gathered in the market, demanding exemplary punishment for the accused youth. The situation soon became tense.
Police Intervention
Local traders informed Naragati Police Station about the escalating situation. Police arrived at the scene promptly and arrested the accused, bringing the situation under control.
Police Statement
Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahim said:
“পবিত্র কুরআন শরীফে অবমাননার অভিযোগে হামীম মোল্লা নামের এক যুবককে আটক করা হয়েছে। প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে সে বিষয়টি স্বীকার করেছে। এ ঘটনায় আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা প্রক্রিয়াধীন রয়েছে।”
Translation: “A youth named Hamim Molla has been detained on allegations of desecrating the Holy Quran. During preliminary interrogation, he admitted to the matter. Legal proceedings are currently underway.”
