The government is moving forward with a big project to build a 205km pipeline from Bhola to Khulna, costing BDT 4,500 crore. The pipeline, managed by Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), will connect Bhola’s natural gas to the national grid. By 2029, it will deliver 180 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd), helping solve energy shortages in the southern region and supporting industrial growth.
Although the original Bhola-Khulna pipeline plan was shelved in 2023, the government is still focused on using Bhola’s gas. There is now a plan to build a shorter 65km pipeline for Tk 1,300 crore to bring gas from Bhola to the mainland. In addition, private companies like Intraco Refueling Station PLC are also working to increase the gas supply from Bhola by 20 mmcfd.
These efforts aim to provide steady energy to industries and power plants in the region, helping to meet the country’s growing energy needs and supporting economic growth.
