Bangladesh has expressed interest in purchasing Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder fighter jets to strengthen its air force and modernize its defense. The news came after a meeting between a Bangladeshi defense team, led by Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, and Pakistan’s Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in Islamabad.
During the meeting, Bangladesh praised the JF-17 for its advanced features, affordability, and versatility. The jet, which Pakistan developed with China, is known for handling various missions like air defense, ground attacks, and aerial reconnaissance.
The two sides also discussed working together on military training, exchange programs, and other defense projects. Reports suggest Bangladesh is planning to review the JF-17C model to see if it meets its needs.
This interest is part of Bangladesh’s “Forces Goal 2030” plan, which focuses on upgrading its military. If a deal is finalized, it could not only boost Bangladesh’s air power but also strengthen defense relations between the two countries.
Although no formal agreement has been signed yet, this step highlights Bangladesh’s efforts to modernize its defense while keeping costs reasonable.
