A madrasa teacher has been accused of inhumanly torturing a madrasa student in Jhenaidah over allegations of stealing and eating Iftar fruits. The incident has sparked outrage on social media. The incident took place on Wednesday (March 5) morning at Mathurapur Adarsha Orphanage in Sadar Upazila. The victim, Sagar Hossain, is a residential student of the orphanage and a tenth-grade student at Baribathan Dakhil Madrasa.
Sagar Hossain said, “On Monday, after Iftar, I ate two oranges without informing the teachers. Some of the teachers became angry at me for this. Later, this morning, they beat me severely with sticks and a cricket stump. My relatives learned about it and rescued me, then admitted me to the hospital.”
When contacted for a response, madrasa teacher Imran Hawlader did not answer multiple calls on his mobile phone. He was also not found at the orphanage. Regarding the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, told Kaler Kantho, “We have heard about the torture of the madrasa student. If the victim’s family files a written complaint, legal action will be taken.”
