DU Student’s Body Recovered from Elephant Road, BUTEX Student Taken into Custody

The body of a 24 yearold Dhaka University (DU) student named Anika Meherunnesa Sahi was discovered hanging at a hostel on the Elephant Road. A Butex University student has been taken into custody by the police to be questioned about the event. The event happened on Sunday night at approximately 11 p.m. in a room located on the eighth story of Moksud Tower on Elephant Road. Around 1:45 AM Anika was discovered unresponsive and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending physicians pronounced her dead. According to reports Anika attended DU and studied in the Management Department. She was the daughter of Joypurhat’s New Hat village’s Firoz Hossain.

New Market Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Biraj Mistri stated that the unconscious body of the student was recovered from a room on the 8th floor of Moksud Tower. She was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Biraj Mistri said, “Other roommates from the hostel informed us about the incident. After speaking with them, we learned that the student might have taken this step due to a dispute related to a romantic relationship. A student from BUET has been taken into police custody for questioning regarding the incident.” To determine the exact cause of death the body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical morgue for an autopsy, he added. He further mentioned that legal procedures are ongoing in this matter.
