Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman said that neutrality is the biggest capital of the interim government for conducting a free and fair election in the country. But public doubts have already arisen about the neutrality of the government. He urged the interim government to be more careful to maintain their neutrality.
Tariq Rahman said these things by joining the party’s extended meeting in Dhaka virtually from London, United Kingdom, on Thursday. The extended meeting of BNP started at the LD Hall premises of Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan around 11:00 today (27 February). BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia gave the chief guest speech by joining the meeting virtually. His recorded speech was circulated in the meeting. Tariq Rahman said in the meeting that the speech of the chief adviser on the national election at various times has created a positive impression in the public mind, but the misleading statements and comments of some advisers are becoming a cause of disappointment for the freedom-loving, democracy-loving people. Despite the unconditional support of all pro-democracy political parties, including the BNP, the government is still unable to determine the priorities of its action plan. The acting chairman of BNP said that murders, rapes, thefts, and robberies are increasing all over the country. The market is under the control of syndicates, and the prices of daily necessities are uncontrolled. The current interim government is yet to establish complete control over the law and order situation in the country. Where the government is unable to show success in controlling the market situation or the law and order situation in the country, it is not understandable to the people why the local government wants to make the situation of the country more confusing in the name of holding elections before the national elections.
Again, Tariq Rahman said democracy-loving people think that if local government elections are held earlier, it will be a process of resettling fugitive-dictatorship allies across the country, which will be against the desire of mass uprising. BNP will not step into this trap of rehabilitating mass murderers, money launderers, corruptors, and mafia gangs. Referring to BNP’s commitment to the people, Tariq Rahman said that in the next national election, his party will face the justice of the genocidal anti-humanity criminals if they get the responsibility of running the country. Addressing the interim government, the Acting Chairman of BNP said, Withdraw from the plan of holding local elections to rehabilitate mafia gangs, friends of mass murderers across the country. Immediately announce the roadmap of the interim government’s specific action plan for the coming days.
Tariq Rahman spoke about the formation of a new political party. He said that 16-17 new political parties have emerged so far after the mafia chief Hasina fled the country. BNP believes in multi-party democracy and welcomes all new political parties and organizations. However, the people will make the final decision to accept or reject the parties through elections. Therefore, with the participation of every party, the Election Commission should be prepared first for the purpose of conducting a free and fair national election.
