Dinajpur, Friday – A 15-year-old schoolgirl, Mahi Akter, who was brutally stabbed when she was praying in her bedroom, died at a hospital. The incident occurred in Bogurapara, Dipnajar, under Kaharol upazila, leaving the locals in shock.
The attack, according to police and family members, took place on Wednesday at 6:30 pm when Mahi was reciting Maghrib namaz in her room. Arif Hossain, aged 18, is reported to have entered the room and stabbed her a few times with a dagger. Arif had blackmailed Mahi for the past few days and struck after she turned down his offers in anger, according to reports.
Following the attack, Mahi was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital in a critical state, where she was admitted to the surgical ward. Unfortunately, doctors’ efforts failed, and she succumbed to injuries at about 3 am Friday.
Police acted promptly and apprehended Arif within four hours of the attack. The accused, Abul Kalam’s son from Bhattaga village of Kaharol upazila, has been arrested and is now in police custody as the authorities proceed with legal action.
The horrific accident has brought out outrage and sorrow among the populace, with most demanding harsh justice on the offender. The family and neighbors of Mahi are grieving the death of a young life lost far too early as the investigation continues.
