Unicef: 3.3 crore children schooling afflicted in Bangladesh from Climate Crises 2024

The report, “Learning Interrupted: Global Snapshot of Climate-Related School Disruptions in 2024,” is the first of its kind and shows that heatwaves, cyclones, floods and other extreme weather events also led to multiple rounds of school closures globally.

In 2024, at least 247 million students in 77 countries suffered disruptions to their school as a result of heatwaves, tropical storms, floods, and droughts globally.

In Bangladesh, nationwide heatwaves in April and May 2024 put children at risk of dehydration and heatstroke, and schools across the entire country were forced to shut down for up to two weeks, and in several districts subsequent school disruption occurred because of cyclone Remal, followed by heavy flooding in June. Countrywide, the flooding affected up to 1.84 crore people, comprising 70 lakh children.
