Prior to the most recent legislative elections, a unique transaction involving a private union bank occurred. The money is deposited into the account and it is opened a year ahead of the election. Then, cash withdrawals began in December of last year. Thus, prior to the election, over 72 crore taka were taken out of this account. The majority of the funds were taken out of the bank’s Gulshan branch, which is located beneath the main office, even though the account was opened in the Banani branch. This material was discovered during the Union Bank document review process. Mostak Traders Company was opened in this place as an institution. However, the mass was closed on August 20 after the vote in the student uprising. Also all information is removed from online database of information as such. However, there is no option to delete data to view closed. A top leader confirmed that the first digit list is still there as the account information has been deleted. A loan of Tk 55 crore was also given from Union Bank’s Dilkusha branch in the name of this mysterious account. This loan has now defaulted. On the other hand, this correspondent of Prothom Alo did not find any existence of this company at the address used to open the account of Mostak Traders. The bank’s officials reported witnessing numerous parliamentary candidates and their backers take money out of this account prior to the elections. This list includes both new and seasoned contenders, from cricket players to movie stars. They say that Saiful Alam, the chairman of S Alam Group, received the election expenditures as a present from the previous government. He obtained anonymous loans for this purpose from Union Bank and other banks that he owned. The S Alam Group has controlled Union Bank, also referred to as “Bank Kheko,” since its founding in 2013.
