Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, said that all political power in Bangladesh today is the result of the July movement. He made the remarks on Monday (April 13) at a national seminar titled “Implementation of the Referendum Verdict”, organized by an 11-party alliance. The event was held at the Muktijoddha Hall of Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh in the capital.

“We All Exist Because of July”

Emphasizing the importance of the July movement, Shafiqur Rahman said:

Translation: “The government, opposition leaders, and all of us are ‘products of July’. Without July, we do not exist. Because of July, both the government and opposition exist. The government cannot survive by going against July. The aspirations of July will be fulfilled through the referendum, and if needed, we will sacrifice our lives again.”

Commitment to Continue the Movement

Referring to a recent meeting with families of July martyrs and movement participants, he said the movement will continue. The Jamaat chief made it clear that this movement is not about gaining power or advantage. He said the movement is aimed at respecting the people’s mandate and fulfilling the sacrifices of martyrs. He urged citizens to stand beside the movement and support the cause. He said,

Translation: “People of the country, just stand by us. This movement belongs to me, to you to all of us.”

Shafiqur Rahman also warned against any return to authoritarian or family-based rule in Bangladesh.
