Anindya Islam Amit, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, said that Bangladesh now has the highest level of fuel reserves in its history. He made the statement on Friday (April 17) after visiting Eastern Refinery Limited in Patenga, Chattogram.
“Highest Fuel Reserve in History”
The minister emphasized that the country is currently in a strong position regarding fuel reserves. He mentioned,
“দেশের ইতিহাসে বর্তমানে সবচেয়ে বেশি জ্বালানি মজুত রয়েছে।”
Translation: “Currently, the country has the highest fuel reserves in its history.”
He also mentioned that the government is trying to collect fuel from multiple sources. According to the minister, Bangladesh has enough fuel to meet demand for April and May. He said,
“দেশে এপ্রিল ও মে মাসের পূর্ণ জ্বালানি সক্ষমতা রয়েছে এবং সরকার জুন মাসের জ্বালানি মজুতের চেষ্টা করছে।”
Translation: “The country has full fuel capacity for April and May, and the government is working to secure reserves for June.”

Focus on Importing Refined Fuel
Due to the temporary shutdown of the refinery, the government is now focusing more on importing refined fuel. He said,
“ইস্টার্ন রিফাইনারিতে জ্বালানি পরিশোধন বন্ধ থাকায় পরিশোধিত জ্বালানি আমদানিতে মনোযোগ দিয়েছে সরকার।”
Translation: “As fuel refining has stopped at Eastern Refinery, the government is focusing on importing refined fuel.”
The minister also shared updates about future development plans. He said,
“২০২৯ সাল থেকে ইস্টার্ন রিফাইনারির দ্বিতীয় ইউনিটের কার্যক্রম শুরু হবে।”
Translation: “The second unit of Eastern Refinery will begin operations from 2029.”
